Referral Process

A referral is required for a new rheumatology consultation with Dr. Sathaye.

A referral is required for your first rheumatology consultation with Dr. Sathaye, but not for follow-up appointments.

Existing patients transferring from Dr. Olszynski do not need a new referral to continue their care.

You may book bone density testing without a referral. This does not include a rheumatology consultation. If your physician would like Dr. Sathaye to interpret your bone density results and provide recommendations, please ask them to complete the bone density requisition.

Currently accepting referrals

Dr. Sathaye is accepting referrals for the following conditions:

Inflammatory arthritis

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Axial spondyloarthritis (including ankylosing spondylitis)
  • Gout
  • CPPD / pseudogout
  • Reactive arthritis

Systemic conditions

  • Lupus
  • Sjögren’s disease
  • Systemic sclerosis
  • Myositis
  • Vasculitis
  • Antiphospholipid syndrome
  • Adult-onset Still’s disease
  • Mixed connective-tissue disease
  • Undifferentiated connective-tissue disease

Bone health

  • Osteoporosis

Referrals should include:

We understand not all the information requested below may be available, we will not refuse a referral due to missing information.
If needed Dr. Sathaye will send the patients for additional investigations.
  • Patient & Provider Information:
    • Patient's name, healthcard number, date of birth, address, and phone number
    • Referring physician's name, phone number, and fax number
    • Family physician's name, phone number, and fax number
  • Reason for referral
  • Summary of patient's current status:
    • Assess and describe which joints are affected, any joint swelling, pain and/or morning stiffness.
    • Symptom onset / duration. Any red flags.
  • Relevant findings & investigations.
    • For Osteoporosis, NO PRIOR BONE DENSITY TEST IS REQUIRED. Dr. Sathaye requires the patient to receive one through the Saskatoon Osteoporosis Centre on the day of their initial appointment. There is a fee of $120 for the bone density. Please make the patient aware.
    • Arthritis referrals should include x-rays of the affected joints
    • Consider checking CRP, rheumatoid factor, and uric acid
  • Current & Past Management
    • Unsuccessful / successful treatment(s)
    • Previous or concurrent consultations for this issue
  • Comorbidities:
    A complete medical history can help determine the complexity and urgency of the referral.
    • Medical history & pertinent concurrent medical problems. List other physicians involved in care if long-term conditions.
